BEAUTIFUL BIDEFORD

Spotlight on a jewel in the North Devon crown

One of the great things about coming away on one of our weekends is that it gives you a chance to sample a lovely area that you might want to revisit.  A lot of our skittlers come back to their favourite resorts in a different guise.  Sometimes for a family get together or they realise it’s a cracking destination for a longer holiday.

We think Bideford is one of those places.  There is so much to do in and around the town, coast and countryside you’re spoilt for choice.

So lets start from the beginning……If you’ve never had a weekend away with us in Bideford, then we think you’re missing out.  Not only is our hotel, Durrant House, a beautiful and elegant place to stay, but it’s a fantastic base for amazing things to do.  Durrant House is the largest and best equipped hotel in town, enjoying fabulous views towards the Taw estuary and surrounding countryside.

Our skittles weekends here are smaller, more intimate events with just four alleys.  Teams who come here always tell us how much they love its special atmosphere, plus a chance to really get to know all the teams over the weekend. The dining room is just plain gorgeous with its stunning chandeliers, ornate painted ceilings and wood panelled walls. The food’s excellent and there’s even a fab spa on site if you’re in need of some pampering.

So if you decide to come back for a different type of break, what can you expect? Well free wifi and free, plentiful parking are the first things to note.  From then on, the hotel and the town come into their own.  Bideford was once Britain’s third largest port but these days it’s

more of a shopping centre with a historic Pannier Market as well as being home to Atlantic Village shopping outlet.  The town also boasts a range of independent shops, great pubs, music and restaurants to suit all wallets and palates.

Venture further afield and the fun really begins.  There are loads of walking and cycling trails, and ferry trips.  Exmoor National Park is right on your door step.  Fancy a day out on Lundy to see the puffins? Or wend your way down Clovelly’s amazing cobbled streets as you gasp at its beauty (below)

.

You’re within striking distance of some brilliant beaches including Croyde Bay, Woolacombe and Westward Ho! You’ll find plenty of adrenaline pumping water activities on North Devon’s rugged coastline.

Bringing the kids?  They’ll love The Big Sheep (below), Watermouth Castle and the Milky Way Adventure.  And you’ll all adore Lynton and Lynmouth Cliff Railway, the UK”s only water powered railway and the Lynton and Barnstaple steam railway.
