Alley champs

Our first season tournament was held at the Carlton Hotel in Torquay with eight teams travelling from Swindon, Bristol, Gloucester, Berkeley, Ely and South Cerney.  Congratulations to the Breakaways from South Cerney who amassed a super impressive 405 points in the final to beat the only all female team in the competition, the Playmates from Berkeley on 353.  Playmates’ Sarah Waite took home the highest scoring woman trophy with 60, while Darren Capper of Indians B from Gloucester topped the men’s scoreboard with 62.

Meanwhile a week later, 12 teams travelled from Herefordshire, Glamorgan, Bristol, Somerset, Gloucestershire to compete in what I think we could call a Wiltshire bowlover.  The worthy winners were Chippenham’s Studley Dumplings A team reclaiming their title from last year – but only just. They beat Melksham Sports from Wiltshire by just two pins.  In third place were Studley Dumplings B team – obviously also from Wiltshire, on 388 points.  So it was left to the Rowdites to fly the flag for Gloucester on fourth place with 377.

Highest scoring man was Pete McCloy from the Pistol Knights of Swindon with 59 and Alison Lynch of Pirates 2 from Cheltenham claimed the ladies’ silverware with 53 points.  Well done both.

Another great weekend!

Meanwhile at the Derwent Hotel in Torquay, there was another nail biter with 32 teams travelling from eight English counties and three Welsh towns.  The winners, Who Gives a Duck from Slimbridge, made it to the podium by just one pin.

Second place went to the Ugandan Yankers from Weston-super-Mare who took some consolation for such a close match by their team mate Georgina Tulip scooping up the highest scoring woman’s trophy with 59 points.  The men’s trophy went to Rich Price, of Pat’s Boys from Ross-on-Wye with a score of 64.  Well done to everyone.  A great competition and a fab weekend!
