It’s our special year
Somebody once said ‘the world is your oyster. It’s up to you to find the pearls.’ Somebody else observed ‘one pearl is better than a whole necklace of potatoes.’ Yep, we’d agree with that. Even legendary French fashion designer Coco Chanel pondered ‘why wear one string when you can wear two.’ Another great idea.
However in our case there’s only one pearl we’re seriously talking about – and that’s our pearl anniversary next year. We’re planning to celebrate 30 years of Serious About Events with some special events and prizes as well as sharing memories. So keep reading this space for more info.
Meanwhile let’s wish the man who started it all – the Shoot Out Club, as we were called, back in 1994 – Brian Pengelly, who is of course also my wonderful dad – a very happy 84th birthday. He’s still massively involved with all the organisation that goes into our events such as playing orders, coach routes, general advice and support.
Brian really is a legend. How many people can say they created these amazing weekends that more than 200,000 people have enjoyed over the past three decades. It was his idea and the rest is history.
Over the years, we’ve had some fabulous testimonials from our customers. We felt this one posted on Facebook from Luke Dixon who was at Sand Bay a couple of ago with his team (below), sums up it all up. He wrote on Facebook: ‘This weekend can only be described as one of the best of my life. Came back knackered and bruised after having a fight with the floor a few times, but I have made some unforgettable memories with some amazing company.’
