How skittles can change your life

Skittlers inevitably know a thing or two about skittles – but how many of us realise just what amazing transferable skills we have all acquired simply by playing our favourite game.

It’s all about teamwork and communication.  Working out strategies, building trust, supporting our team mates no matter how bad the match is going – and of course chanting!  Isn’t that a community sport!!!  Singing is very good for your mental and physical health.

As all skittlers know, the pre match preparation is all important.  As well as a beer or two, the team gets itself organised with team teeshirts, a running order of players and possibly a chat to the mascot about the strategy.  It’s all about being part of the team.

Just think what a team secretary does – he or she establishes the team’s wishes on the date and venue, organises the booking for one of our fabulous SeriousAboutEvents weekends and then gathers in all the funds.

As those of us who have done it know, getting people to pay up is a pretty thankless but essential task to a successful weekend.  Encouraging people to read all the bumph on where they are staying, organising their fancy dress and making sure everyone knows where they should be before, during and after their weekend away.  Once again it’s all about team building.

But the team building doesn’t have to exist only on the alleys.

If your workplace is a bit of a war zone, or too many people are working from home so you rarely see them, have you thought about having a chat with the boss or your colleagues about a team building day?  Or perhaps a social evening that isn’t solely an extension of workplace gossip and whingeing?  It’s a fantastic chance to put faces to names in a convivial atmosphere where you’re doing something different.

Serious About Events hires out our alleys for all sorts of events which can create a unique and fun atmosphere.  We’re offering a sport that just about everyone can play, no prior knowledge, nor fitness.  Just the ability to shove a ball down an alley – and have some fun.  We can even run the competitions and keep score for you.

How about having a darts and skittles day in your team building calendar?  You’d be offering something vastly different to the tedium of PowerPoint and white board presentations.  It would be an event that people could actually look forward to, one that brings a smile at the thought of playing some classic pub games.

Who knows?  Your workmates could enjoy it so much, they could soon be sitting on the coach beside you, heading for one of our fabulous weekends.
