RACHEL’S BLOG – MAYBE it’s time for……Al fresco skittles anyone???

/ / Uncategorized

May is definitely the month of decisions – its three letters even appear in one of the most over-used and frustrating words in the English language – MAYBE.  Maybe do this, maybe do that…….you know how that goes, maybe…..

So how about this one:  maybe build your own skittle alley in your garden or outside space and dedicate it to a game of skittles.  As it’s No Mow May, just think – all that time you’ve saved cutting the grass could be put to better use.

As always, I have a couple of suggestions for you:

1. DIY option

  • Choose your space. Ideally you’ll need a flat hard surface that’s at least four feet wide and about thirty feet long.  Or just adapt to whatever you have.
  •  Build your own alley, using wooden planks, pallets or any other materials you might have hiding in your garage or shed to create a lane. And mark up a throwing line with the paint from     one of the many tins lurking in said shed
  • Create your skittle pins. You could get a bit creative here, by using juice cartons or plastic bottles filled with water.  Even better throw a party and collect all the beer bottles and cans afterwards to use as pins.  Or just cheat and buy a skittle set.
  • Get flash with a ball return. You could add a little ramp with sides to collect the balls and return them to the players.  Saves a bit of back breaking work!
  • Accessorize your alley with a cool box for the beer and some garden chairs for banter and chanting when it’s not your turn. Alternatively go the whole hog by building a barbecue and adding a tiki bar.
  • Invite friends, family and even your neighbours. Your outdoor skittles party could become an annual event.  Get your team round for a summery practice session – oh and a beer or two.

2. Serious About Events option

  • Ask us about our skittle alley hire. If you’ve been roped into creating a big social event for your workplace, reunion or family gathering, we might be able to help you.  It’s the best game we know for bringing people of all ages together in that fun and mildly sporting atmosphere that only a game of skittles can create.
  • Wet or dry hire? We can either run your event for you, organise teams, scores and trophies.  Plus we can source suitable venues, organise catering and entertainment if required.  Or you can simply hire the alleys so you can run your own event however you fancy.

So as May is the month where we can cast a clout (coat) when may (hawthorn blossom) is out, it’s time to get all summery and enjoy our favourite game outside.  So what are you waiting for?

Let us know how you get on – how about sending pix?!

Meanwhile here’s to outdoor skittles!!
